Irish Session for Improving MusiciansSuspended as of 10/8/08This was a wonderful event for over a year but had run it's course. I now host group sessions at my studio for a variety of playing levels. the old descriptionI started this session so my students would have a place to play, but it's open to anyone who can already play a few tunes and would like to play more. We like to keep the tempos down and the atmosphere encouraging so that newcomers and friends will want to join in. O'Brady's is a great family restaurant and kids are welcome to listen in or play with us. (They always pracitce more the following week.) We just ask that parents accompany their children since adult beverages are served and we don't want to distract other diners. All traditional Irish instruments are welcome, including fiddle, whistle, flute, guitar, mandolin, etc. I'm not always able to attend every week, but the music goes on without me. For a list of commonly played tunes email me at address above. There is also an advanced Irish session every Thursday night at McGinley's Pub at 6th & G street, and Tuesday nights at the Middle Way Cafe next to REI on Northern Lights. There are likely to be people meeting to play Irish music on Monday nights at the Kaladi Brother's Cafe on Brayton Drive. If you would like to know the current status of the Monday night session, feel free to email or call me: please do not call Kaladi as whoever you get on the phone is unlikely to know. |
