Fiddle
My expertise as a performer is Irish music, but my expertise as a teacher is giving beginners a great foundation and helping students to make the music
they want to make. I will help you:
- improve rhythm & timing
- develop good tone
- develop awareness of how you are using your muscles and bones and how to do so more efficiently
- fine-tune your instrument's setup
- learn how to teach yourself by ear
- understand music theory (It's easy, really!)
I have written and recorded my own teaching materials using melodies taken from Irish music, but I am equally happy to use other method books or help you with music of your choosing.
If we focus on Irish style, besides good technique you will learn:
- session tunes
- good timing, rhythm, phrasing
- ornamentation and creating variations
- bow control and good bowing patterns
- session playing skills

Whistle
The pennywhistle offers a great opportunity to learn music without having to learn lots of
technique or buy an expensive instrument. Many authorities on Irish music believe that no
matter what instrument you'd like to learn, you should start by learning the pennywhistle.
A lot of what you learn -- like melodies, theory, and ornamentation -- will transfer if
you decide to learn another instrument later.
I have whistles available for purchase, or come with your own. I teach the same tunes I teach my fiddle
students so that my students can all play tunes together.
